Message A bad sending unit will not cause a tick. A bad sending unit will just give you funky or no oil PSI readings on your gauge.

It's common for Z's to develop lifter ticks (assuming you're sure yours is lifter tick) and from what I've read the only way to cure this the 'real' way is to replace your lifters. Even though they are ticking, there are no adverse performance affects. You can try adding some Marvel Mystery Oil in your crankcase and run with that for like 500 miles or so then do an oil change to see if that helps.
